Certification

The requirements of the new certification scheme ‘Norwegian Ecotourism’ was launched at the Reiseliv 2008 travel and tourism exhibition in Lillestrøm.

For small-scale travel and tourism businesses, these criteria can be useful pegs on which to hang product development, at the same time as a certification of the enterprise may be an important new market tool and represent a fresh approach to business development.

'We did not become an ecotourism enterprise without making an effort!’ said one of the enterprises that helped to develop and test the criteria. Yes, to be certified as an ecotourism enterprise is supposed to require something of you. In Norway, we have many environmental and quality labels for the travel and tourism industry. The ecotourism concept stands out by not being just an environmental or quality label, but rather a total concept that focuses on offering memorable experiences and good eco-friendly tourism to visitors, staff, the environment and the local community alike.

If you are certified to the Norwegian Ecotourism label, you also meet international ecotourism standards. If you wish to be among the best in the world in the area of ecotourism and take advantage of the market opportunities this represents, the first step is to become a certified Norwegian ecotourism enterprise. Click on the links below to learn more about the certification process.

Certified enterprises can use the ‘Certified Norwegian Ecotourism’ quality label in its profiling of all the products and services that the certification covers. After three years, the business must be recertified to be able to continue using the quality label. Certified ecotourism enterprises may also publish their profile on our website and have the opportunity to participate in various market activities organised by Norwegian Ecotourism.
